Iowa comes to Richmond

And I Intend to Tour Iowa.

Regular readers to this Blog know that I have an active interest in World War II. Today I decided to satisfy my curiosity with regard to one of the battleships once mothballed in Benicia. It's the USS Iowa, and it's been towed from the fleet and moved to Richmond for repairs.

Below is a video of the mothball fleet featuring the USS Iowa.

I've know about this for a long time, and while walking Pixie at the dog park at
Point Isobel I'd be searching for traces of the USS Iowa across the bay in the Richmond port close to the Red Oak Liberty (a great tour, by the way)

Sure enough, I caught a glimpse of it, and I learned in the West County Times
that it's open for tours! $5 for kids, $10 for adults. Great news! I can take more than just a peek at it. I can take a tour!

I want to be sure and see it before work is completed and it moves to San Diego to become a museum. I know I'd regret it if I don't, so I plan to play hookey today and take the tour.

After the tour, I'm staving off another regret by heading for the Shattuck Theater to see the compilation of short subjects nominated for the Oscar this year. I've always wanted to see those films, and never do. They all sound so interesting when described on Oscar night.

So today, I'm going to put regrets behind me and enjoy touring  the USS Iowa and watching some potentially award winning short films!

It's a well-deserved day off, then it's back to work again for me again on Sunday. I'm on floor at the
Coldwell Banker Berkeley Office, and I'm holding open my gorgeous listing at
22 Windsor in Kensington. Come on by and say hello!
